K.Keeranur Panchayat, Oddanchatram Taluk, Dindigul Dt, Tamil Nadu, India is located at the foot hill of Lord Malligarjuna swamy temple. It is moderate in size. It is a multicaste one with a total population of more than 5000 people. A part from the main village of K.Keeranur, there are 5 hamlets namely Idayanvalasu, Vellianvalasu, Chinnakaliappa goundan valasu, Pernumal goundan valasu, Cherian Nagar, Miras Nagar, Anna Nagar and Malleswarapuram.
Main activity and voluntary organizations:
The main activity of the people is agriculture. They depend upon wells for irrigating the lands. The agriculture labourers are engaged in farm works. So for ground water development a number of tanks, ponds and checkdams numbering more than 50 are constructed by the agriculture department, SGRY and voluntary organizations like World Vision India.
Water facilities:
The panchayat have overhead tanks, ground level reservoirs, mini pumps and hand pumps for water supply. Every hamlet is connected by protected water supply from the overhead tanks. They are more than 10 in numbers. There is no shortage of water supply. House connections are given to most of the hamlets. More over 100 public tape connections have been provided.Schools:
The main village has one government middle schools and the hamlets have 3 elementarty schools. Balwadies three in number are also functionining in all the hamlets. All schools have own government buildings with enough teachers.
Bank:
The gram panchayat has one canara bank at K.Keeranur. Most of the accounts are operated by the people from various village. This bank was opened by our Honble Mr. Senathipathi M.P and Permission was given by the Honble R.Venkatraman, Union Minister for finance. It has introduced saving and thrift habits among village people. It is number one bank for lending and recovery in Dindigul rural district.
Government health centre:
The gram panchayat is having our government primary health centre with Siddha section. There are three such centers. All those educate the people on health programmers and people are looked after well from diseases.
Sanitation:
Regarding sanitation every hamlet is properly maintained by drainage. There is no stagnation of water and waste. Separate public latrines are constructed for ladies and gents with adequate water supply.
Other connections:
The main village is connected with all hamlets by black tapping roads. All these hamlets have public transport facilities. The forest department has taken 265. Hectares in maleeswaran hill and perumal hills for forestation and saplings are raised. The tanks and ponds and roadside wastelands have been used for raising the saplings.
Public distribution system:
The public distribution system is functioning in appreciable manner and the ration card holders are getting their monthly supply form these shops. Elders and handicapped are getting free rice.The laborers are getting wages from the 100 days program regularly. Tanks, canals and percolation ponds are renovated. The gram panchayat have once animal husbandry centre, V.O.A. Office, Post Office, Electricity Office, public library and one c-operative milk society namely Awin. Apart from this there is one state khadi centre. So in all aspects the village panchayat is a model one. All these facilities have improved the villagers social and economic condition.
Meetings:
1. Panchayat meetings will be conducted once a month with all panchayat staffs.
2. Common meetings will be conducted every week in Kalliamman kovil building with higher people of K.Keeranur panchayat.
3. All festival budgets will be organized by AM.Naattudurai, Panchayat president, Sundar, Periya Maniyam.
